Via Times of Central Asia, a report on a new infrastructure project in Turkmenistan:
On August 8, Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdymukhammedov took part in the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of an important transport infrastructure facility — a new two-lane automobile bridge across the Garabogaz Kol Bay along the highway connecting the Caspian port city of Turkmenbashi, Garabogaz and the border with Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan State News Agency (TDH) reported.
Taking into account the exceptionally favorable geographical location of Turkmenistan at the intersection of transcontinental routes, as well as the existing transport and transit potential, one of the priorities of the state policy pursued by President Serdar Berdymukhammedov is the consistent integration of the domestic transport network into the world system, development of a modern multimodal infrastructure that meets international standards and includes all types of transport, including road transport.
Turkmenistan also considers development of maritime passenger and cargo transportation as an important condition for the full-scale integration of the states of Central Asia and the Caspian basin into the world economic system. The international seaport of Turkmenbashi operates as the largest transit hub in the region.
