Botswana has a $60 million digital and innovation HUB (BDIH), called the BDIH Science and Technology Park, which is located strategically on a 57 hectare site, near the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport and adjacent to the Diamond Technology Park in Gaborone.
The focal point of the Hub is to provide state-of-the art buildings and facilities to attract domestic, regional and global companies to locate business as well as research and development activities within the Park, and promote technology-based innovation and entrepreneurship. It aims to create downstream job creation in new manufacturing and services enterprises. The Science and Technology Park offers high quality road infrastructure, street lighting, and power and ICT connectivity. In addition to the facilities, BDIH offers special incentives to companies and institutions that are registered with it. Qualifying applicants will be granted a BDIH Membership Certificate which entitles them to:
1. Networking, research and technical collaboration opportunities locally and internationally.
2. A concessionary 15% corporate tax rate for qualifying companies.
3. Eligibility to import specialised skills and personnel under a special BDIH dispensation.
4. Access to the Technology Entrepreneurship Programme run by BDIH.
Focusing primarily on The New Seven Sisters - the largely state owned petroleum companies from the emerging world that have become key players in the oil & gas industry as identified by Carola Hoyos, Chief Energy Correspondent for The Financial Times - but spanning other nascent opportunities around the globe that may hold potential in the years ahead, Wildcats & Black Sheep is a place for the adventurous to contemplate & evaluate the emerging markets of tomorrow.
