Via Al Monitor, an article on a new air bridge between Syria and Pakistan:
A private Syrian airline began direct flights to Pakistan’s largest city today.
Karachi is now Cham Wings Airlines’ 14th international destination. The airline is seeking to expand its global flight network, and public relations head Osama Satea said there is a demand for flights to Pakistan. He hopes the move will help boost trade between Syria and Pakistan, Syria’s official news outlet SANA reported.
A regional power in South Asia, Pakistan has worked to improve relations with some Middle Eastern states recently. Pakistan wants closer military relations with Iran, which is related to the Taliban takeover of their shared neighbor Afghanistan. Pakistan’s army chief of staff also went to the United Arab Emirates in September on an official visit.
The Syrian government has been ostracized on the global stage over the civil war in the country and is seeking normalization with regional states. Air travel is part of this effort. Syrian Airlines resumed flights to Dubai in June, coinciding with improving Syria-UAE relations.
