In 2022, Meesho was the most-downloaded shopping app in the world with over 500 million downloads. Its home page offers a variety of unbranded products including jeans, kurtas, shoes, and smart watches at under $4 apiece, alongside branded items from boAt, Portronics, Zebronics, Paragon, Decathlon, and more through “Meesho Mall.”

Meesho is a social shopping app that launched in 2015. It allows users to resell products by sharing listings with friends and family over WhatsApp. Meta invested in Meesho in 2019 before it eventually pivoted to challenge India’s biggest retailers.
While rivals Flipkart and Amazon target the richest 5% of India’s population with high-end TVs and smartphones, Meesho focuses on cheaper goods for small-town consumers. It has survived against deep-pocketed competitors with a zero commission model, allowing sellers to offer much lower prices. Meesho even shrunk the size of its shopping app to 13.6 MB, making it easier to install on low-end smartphones.
